Mark Ollinger: Where Graffiti Meets Sculpture

This week’s featured artist is Mark Ollinger, a Canadian sculptor whose work dances on the tightrope between the worlds of graffiti and fine art sculpture. I’m fascinated by how his pieces carry the rebellious, coded spirit of graffiti writers while embodying the precision, patience, and material mastery of sculptors. There’s also a delightful game at play: each work hides words woven into its looping, labyrinth-like form. I find it particularly amusing to stand before one of his sculptures, eyes tracing the lines like a maze, waiting for the hidden message to suddenly reveal itself.
